How to Festival: McDowell Mountain Music Festival 2016 Preview

McDowell Mountain Music Festival 2016 is in 2 days, and we can’t wait!
It was one of our favorite festivals last year. Now in it’s 13th year McDowell Mountain Music Festival is 100% non-profit, with all proceeds going to Phoenix Children’s Hospital Foundation and UMOM New Day Center. With a strong focus on community involvement and the arts, Mcdowell Mountain does an excellent job of creating an environment that brings everyone together.

The Lineup

The lineup this year is amazing with Beck, The Avett Brothers, Kid Cudi, Porter Robinson, Animal Collective and more! After Hours performances will be by Animal Collective, Goldfish, Griz and M!NT on Friday and Saturday evenings at the Renaissance Phoenix Downtown Hotel. The party starts at 11:30pm and admission is only $20!

We saw Beck last year in Tucson where he played a mix of his grammy award winning album “Morning Phase” and old favorites, and it might have been the best show we’ve ever attended. If his setlist at MMMF is half as good as it was at his show in Tucson, then we’re in for a treat.
Also towards the top on our list of favorite concerts are The Avett Brothers who, since seeing them open for DMB at The Gorge Amphitheatre in 2012, have been a part of our daily playlist. Their music has a very raw, folk rock sound that will have you dancing in no time.
Kid Cudi is another old favorite of ours. With his influences ranging between A Tribe Called Quest, Tupac, Snoop Dogg, Ratatat, MGMT, Nirvana, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd and more, it’s no surprise his sound is so unique.

McDowell Mountain Music Festival is more than just good music! There will be a variety of vendors there with jewelry, clothing, artwork and more, there is something for everyone!

Want something truly unique? The Super Rad Cape Co. will be returning to MMMF this year. Their colorful, one-a-kind capes will definitely help you stand out and bring out your inner-child. The Buffalo Exchange and The High Thai will also be there if you’re looking for something a little more subtle.

Another product we’ve never seen anywhere else are Third Eye Pinecones’ collection of pendants and necklaces, made from the center of pinecones. Adam Rabbit has some unique designs as well, located in Phoenix their jewelry is inspired by raw crystals and minerals. More jewelry vendors include Dana Blair Designs, who gives a portion of proceeds to charity, and Silver & Sage, a local company that uses natural stones and organic materials.
Other vendors that will be at MMMF 2016 (just to name a few) include The Phoenix Film Festival, Bakpocket Products, Strive Dreams Body Art, Ugly Hands Productions and Phil Lewis, whos artwork has been featured at Electric Forest, Wakarusa, High Sierra Music Festival and more.

There will be a variety of food available from pizza to vietnamese food, you shouldn’t have a hard time finding something to eat. Vendors include Pho-King, Paletas Betty, Hungry Monk, All Gourmet Catering and more. Beverages will be provided by Oskar Blues and Ghost Pines. You can always try, if you need any loan for your expences.

McDowell Mountain Music Festival 2016 WeatherLast year was HOT!!! We are already breaking records this year, so don’t forget your sunscreen! There will be a water station as well so don’t forget to drink plenty of water!

Bring cash as not all vendors last year accepted cards. If you’re coming from out of town and still haven’t booked a hotel check out MMMF’s recommendations here(

About the Author:

Hello! My name is Arianna, but my friends (a.k.a. you!) call me Ari! I'm a fun-loving, head strong, passionate person who puts my heart in everything I do! I grew up in a town near Seattle, WA with a fairly strict family. Growing up, I sang in the church and school choirs and listened to mostly christian music (I wasn't allowed to listen to much else). As I got older I developed a love of punk rock, classic rock, and indie music. Needless to say, my mother did not approve. I spent much of my childhood sneaking off to concerts. When I was 16, I managed to sneak off to Warped Tour at The Gorge Ampitheatre and boy, was I hooked. What I really love about music festivals is the way they attract people from all walks of life. It's a beautiful thing to see people set aside their differences and connect through music. I helped create Family of Festivals to keep that community alive year 'round, and make the festival world a little smaller.
