How to Festival: Gem and Jam Festival 2016 Preview

In this edition of How to Festival: Gem and Jam Festival 2016 Preview, we explore the music, location, and other happenings planned for this year.

About Gem and Jam Festival

Infinite Music, Euphonic Conceptions, New Earth MuZIQ and Challenger presents the 10th annual Gem and Jam.

Hosting both prominent Internationally and Nationally touring names in the jam and electronic music scenes; Gem & Jam is not just a music festival. Workshops, dancers, visual performers, high-end art gallery installations coupled with cutting edge production and attention to every detail ensure for an over the top experience.

The 10th Annual Gem and Jam Festival is held each year during with the world renowned Tucson Gem, Mineral and Fossil Showcase making this special weekend each year the perfect pairing in music and art for gem enthusiasts and festival goers of all kinds. While for many music remains the main attraction, the Gem and Jam Festival also features artists of all mediums including visual performers, live artists, arts and crafts along with workshops and lectures, food vendors and high end art galleries.

Over 55,000 people are expected to gather and visit Tucson, AZ from around the world during the 3 week Gem and Mineral Show which has motivated the organizers of the Gem and Jam Festival to provide a unique atmosphere- celebrating the art and ethos of the Gem and Mineral community along with entertainment and visual arts.

Tucson, Arizona is home to the annual Gem and Jam Festival. A little over an hour south of Phoenix, the capital of Arizona, Tucson is a great spot for an outdoor festival in February. We haven’t explored too much of the area, but look forward to spending some quality time there. In addition to attending the festival, we also plan to check out Mount Lemmon. There’s an 8+ mile trail we want to attempt called Seven Falls. If you’re interested in doing the hike with us, visit our contact page!

Gem and Jam Festival 2016 LineupThe Gem and Jam 2016 lineup rings very honest to us. You don’t see too many “huge” names who just hit the big times last year. What you do see is a ton of solid bands and DJs that have built up loyal followings over time with good music and ideals that run parallel with those of the festival community.

Michael Menert is a DJ worth checking out. He’s got an interesting story and his music has stood out to us since we first saw him in 2013 when he played a small stage in an Oregon forest during a light rainfall. It is one of the best memories we have since we first started attending festivals.

Minnesota (playing Friday night) is another DJ we recommend. We got to see him up close and personal at MASSV Music Festival back in 2013. Nahko and Medicine for the People is a can’t-miss show, so put them on your schedule.

Saturday artists we recommend include Beats Antique. Probably one of the artists we’ve seen most just by chance, Beats is quite the spectacle. We’re also excited for The Polish Ambassador after hearing multiple friends talk about how great of a show he puts on. Hopefully he’s wearing his Disco Gems!

Funk masters Lettuce close out the Quartz stage on Sunday night. Break Science and Exmag have also been on our artist wish list. Admittedly, there are plenty of artists we’ve never listened to on the Gem and Jam Festival 2016 lineup, but that’s half the fun about festivals; you get to see artists you’ve been dying to see and learn about artists you’ve never heard of.

To enhance the music and overall experience, mind-melting live visual art production will be handled by Jonathan Singer – one of the best in the business. Check out this video of his talents and tastes below.
